Services
The gap between a published open-source design and a working instrument in your lab is wider than it looks. We bridge that gap — whether you need a custom-built tool, help replicating a method from the literature, or a pipeline to make sense of the data your instruments generate.
Custom equipment development
You have a scientific question. We help you build the instrument to answer it.
We design bespoke open-source hardware for specific research needs — from sensor arrays and imaging systems to behavioral rigs and environmental control units. Every design is documented, open-licensed, and built to be replicated and modified by your team.
Good for: Research groups needing instruments that do not exist commercially, or that exist commercially at prohibitive cost.
Replication support
Published open-source hardware is only useful if you can actually build it.
We help labs reproduce instruments from the scientific literature — sourcing components, adapting designs for local availability, building and testing the device, and training your team to operate and maintain it.
Good for: Labs that have identified a published open tool they want to use but lack the engineering bandwidth to replicate it from scratch.
Data analysis
Hardware is only half the problem.
We build Python and Jupyter-based data analysis pipelines for instrument output — from image processing and time-series analysis to automated reporting and visualization. Pipelines are documented, version-controlled, and handed over fully to your team.
Good for: Research groups generating data from custom or open-source instruments who need analysis workflows they can own and modify.

Partners
We work with research institutions, universities, biomedical engineering departments, and biotech companies. Our client base is primarily in Brazil and Latin America, and we welcome international engagements.
We have over a decade of experience building open-source hardware for academic and clinical settings across multiple continents — so we understand the constraints of real laboratories, not just ideal ones.

Values
Prisma Science came into existence to democratize research and education tools. This is why our services are rated to be affordable in Brazil and South America.
